If a delivery attempt is unsuccessful, what happens next depends on the delivery method, your location, and the carrier.
What happens if delivery can’t be completed?
In most cases, the delivery driver will attempt to deliver your parcel once.
If delivery is unsuccessful, the carrier will usually:
- Leave a delivery card or update tracking with instructions
- Redirect your parcel to a nearby post office, depot, or Collection Point for collection
In some cases, additional delivery attempts may be made depending on the carrier and your location.
Rural and regional deliveries
For some rural or regional areas, carriers may:
- Attempt redelivery
- Redirect the parcel to a local depot or collection facility
- Provide instructions for collection via tracking updates
Delivery processes may vary depending on the local carrier network in the area.
Same-day delivery (Melbourne only)
If a same-day delivery attempt is unsuccessful:
- The parcel will return to the depot
- A second delivery attempt will usually be made on the next business day evening between 6pm–10pm
- Collection Point redirection is not usually used for same-day deliveries
You will be kept updated via tracking notifications throughout the process.
How will I know what happened?
Your tracking information will be updated with the latest delivery status, which may include:
- Delivery attempted
- Out for redelivery (where applicable)
- Awaiting collection
- Return to sender
Follow the instructions in your tracking link to complete delivery or collection.
